Awaiting the Cousins
Cousins were due to arrive by 2:50pm right in the middle of the afternoon. What else to do, but to hunt for some good eats near the airport. I read about this place, Nico’s Pier 38 from a couple of blogs. Little did I know, Yelp had two entries for this and I followed Apple Map’s direction out to some warehouse. Thanks. Luckily I used Google maps and found the actual place a few blocks away in a more active place. It still looked like it was in an industrial area with the large buildings. But you knew you were in the correct place with all the people around and the colorful signs that transformed the area. A bit off the grid, but it was close airport. I have a feeling I’ll be back to this place. Not quite for the seared ahi, but for the poke. Pretty damn good at this place.

Verdict: I’ll be back for the poke. Other stuff was just okay.
Evening was set aside for a birthday party at Side Street Inn. The only place to house the twenty eight of us on this trip. With the size of the party, it was a pre-set meal. The place was more of a sports bar than a family restaurant, but I didn’t mind. I wanted beer and coincidentally enough, the food was on the salty side. Keep pouring. I’ve fallen into the trap and loving every bit of it.
Next time though, we’ll be at Irafune. Side Street Inn got our patronage because they were closed on Mondays. See you in a few days Irafune!

As much as I like beef, this stuff didn’t hit the mark. Cooked to a fine medium rare on the skillet, the taste wasn’t there. I think you’re support to have each piece with the mushrooms and onions, but I found out too late. $12.00USD

Why haven’t I thought of this before. Cooking edamame in some garlic butter. Oh this was great, especially with a beer. $9.50USD

Outside seating even though there were passing showers. The umbrellas were large enough to keep us safe and dry.

Seared ahi tuna perfection. It doesn’t look too pretty, but if you get this stuff rare/medium rare, you’re good to go. Please excuse the brown rice, I don’t know what got into me. No need for me to be healthy here. $12.95USD

The freshest poke I’ve had to date. You just know from how the chunks melt in your mouth while the sesame flavors kick you in the face. One thing to note about this was that they keep the soy sauce separate and will mix it in when you buy it. So for all you gluten free people, this was key. $8.64USD/half pound
