Rain Day
It was a scattered rain storm day. And rain storm isn’t quite the word. It was a chaotic down pour if you got caught in one of these rain clouds roaming the island. Unfortunately, one of them came out to Waimea Bay to ruin our snorkeling and beach afternoon. We ended up searching for other beaches because at the time, Waikiki was being hit by rain. The only place without rain was Ewa Beach, a beach I never been to. Well, once we got there I knew why. It’s quite out of the way and even though it was dry and sunny (yeah, micro climates here too), there was no one around except for one person baking on a beach chair. Secluded yes, inviting, not really. The water was pretty rough and didn’t look like a pleasant swim. The good thing though was it had a wonderful view of Waikiki which was clear and sunny by 3pm. So it all about making the best of the day. Back through traffic, we were back in the water. Ah, the always dependable Waikiki.
Food:
We started out the day with a big breakfast at MAC 24/7, an overly fancy diner that serves enormous portions. And no, we didn’t try this place out because of Man vs. Food. It actually had decent ratings and it was between going to IHop or waiting at Eggs and Things. Not a bad decision. I got a big hawaiian breakfast with Kalbi and, Rice, and Eggs. Not too shabby. And Vicky got the Red Velvet pancakes, um, normal sized. All in all, not bad, though not a must try place.
For the rest of the day we tried to keep things light with musubi and bento boxes. Mmmm, spam musubi!
Oh, and there’s a Yogurtland in Waikiki, and it’s open late.
Costs:
$10-$15 a dish at MAC 24/7
$5 cup at Yogurtland (I was generous on the toppings)
