Yakiniku Wabi Sabi
Hozenji Yokocho was a nice contrast to the Dotonbori crowds just around the corner. Quieter, more traditional feeling. The alley itself has that worn, old Osaka character to it — stone lanterns, moss-covered statues, the kind of narrow path that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back a few decades. Wabi Sabi fit right into that setting.
We were lucky to find this place and get seating without reservations. They seated us in a small private booth with the doors kept closed, which made for a nice intimate dinner for two. The interior leaned into the warm wood tones you’d expect from a place along that stretch — calm and unhurried, a deliberate step away from the energy outside. The staff checked in regularly without making it feel intrusive. Service was on point throughout the night.
The wagyu was cooked over charcoal, and you could tell. There’s a fragrance that comes with charcoal grilling that you just don’t get from gas, and it carried through every cut we had. It added that extra layer to an already great meal. Each course came out at the right pace, and the food was spectacular from start to finish. The kind of dinner where you’re not watching the clock.

Verdict: Worth seeking out if you find yourself in Namba. The setting alone is reason enough.

Included in the set were these two pieces of wagyu nigiri. They were perfect compliment to the entire meal. You might ask, “Is this too much beef?” The answer should always be “No,” especially if you’re at a yakiniku restaurant.

We got ourselves a set for two which came with an assortment of meat, which was just enough for two. There were other items included such as salad and small appetizers.

The egg and seasoning they used with the wagyu was perfectly balanced. There was a hint of tartness but the egg mellowed it out, letting you enjoy the beef without it being overpowered.

Ventilation in the booth kept us from suffocating and prevented our clothes from smelling too smoky. I love the wood briquettes they used here. The aroma was perfect.
