Restful Friday’s
It’s strange when you have jet lag. At the start you’re clock is so messed up you’re downing two to three cups of coffee during the day and finding yourself wide awake and going out in the evening. It’s kinda like trying out that #drinktillyoupassout so you #sleptforeighthourstoresetyourclock till you give up. Then comes Friday morning and everything feels okay. I was all set on Singaporean time and now I have a few days to enjoy. So what else should one do on a Friday night. Right. Relax.
And what I mean by relax was to go out and eat.
We were looking for Laksa and found Top Wok Singapore, a nice little site that listed the best hawker centers and the best foods to find there. Not like the rest of the food was bad. No, its intent was to list the best of. The Laksa we were hunting was in Little India. It was a journey that ended in another noob mistake. Hawker stands don’t have store hours. And this one in particular closed early. From what we gather from the other store owners, they just closed when they run out of food. Go figure. It was 9pm and it was a local establishment. Not too many foreigners around except for us. On a side note, this meant people hardly went to the McDonalds here. So score. I finally get to try the wasabi dipping sauce that’s completely out of stock in the McDonalds downtown. What? Don’t judge me! It was exactly what you’d imagine it taste like, like heroin.
Salvaging the night, we became local stars stopping off to have some Indian food. The owner took a photo of us for some reason, but we didn’t care. The food was good and the place was a little upscale. However, my favorite part was that it was air conditioned. Oh man, it was such a relief.
Later that night we went to check out Marina Sands Hotel and Casino like good tourists. As bad tourists, we didn’t go in to the casino, because we didn’t have our passports, which was necessary for entry. Then we tried to get to the top of the hotel for the view. Again, we were so uninformed. There was a dress code for the bar. And they probably carded too. That’s what we get for going with a fifteen year old memory.

Okay, why hasn’t this made it to the states? I read it was first in Tokyo and now almost sold out in Singapore. It’s a success already, now ship it everywhere. You got my buy in. $5.80SGD

Not the prettiest of dishes, but a nicely balanced dish from Indonesian BBQ. The Chicken though was a little overcooked and the sauce was a little too much. I’ll try this dish again but not at this stand. $5.50SGD

This was interesting. A little sour yet light like a crepe. We ate this with only the sauces which makes me wonder if we were suppose to eat it with something. $3SGD

A little less doughy than I think this should have been. Not that I’ve had this before, but that’s what my taste buds are asking for. $3SGD

A view from the Marina Sands on a clear night where I wish I had brought my tripod like a good photo nut. This was what I get. At least I didn’t capture the crazy laser show that was going on. That would have clearly been out of the limits of this camera.
