Shopping
Sunday shopping in Hong Kong is madness. Everyone’s out and about. All the stores you’re looking for are all the stores practically everyone else is looking for. I went to IFC in Central, Harbour City and The One Mall in Tsim Sha Tsui, and after hours of shopping, I ended up with nothing. Well, a few places to eat of course. I had to keep my energy up battling through the crowds. And the crazy thing about the crowds, it isn’t because it was Christmas time, this is normal for Hong Kong. Eek.
The one key piece of advice I can give you is to shop. Make sure you check every store and even the same store at different shops. Crazy, but it can pay off. When I got to the IFC I found out they were running some special promotion for foreigners. 10% off at selected stores. One of which was Ferragamo. A store I decided wasn’t good to buy anything from given the 9% tax in San Francisco. Here, there was no tax. There was a slight markup, about 4-5%. But now with a 10% discount, I was ready to buy. Score! Of course, I waited later this week to actually purchase it. I had to make sure I had enough room in my luggage.
As for food, I didn’t venture too far from the normal shops while shopping. Those places don’t need any explanation here. The only place worth noting was the local roast duck shop. You know, the ones with duck, pork, and other meats hanging in the window. Venture out to these places. It’s worth it now and then. Just make sure the food is hanging inside the shop window and not outside. I don’t recommend being that adventurous.
Costs:
$18HKD per macron at LGB
$28HKD roast duck and chicken

These little treats are getting pretty popular around Hong Kong or more so, Hong Kong island where people don’t mind paying alot for a small morsel of a treat. It’s done right though. Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Definitely needs to pair with coffee. $18HKD per macron

My favorite local quick bit to eat next to wonton noodle soup. This good and greasy meal isn’t all that great without that little dipping plate. Made of ginger, green onions, oil, and salt, can you imagine how fat you’re going to get. It’s all worth it. $28HKD

A whole place dedicated to the Peanuts. Interesting, but maybe next time I’ll check it out, when I have kids that is.
