Temple Street

Temple Street

Hong Konghappy foot, scampi, street food, temple street

Today was a day to start meeting up with old friends and one particular good friend, Ali. We met up at North Garden Restaurant in Sheung Wan. It’s a dim sum place serving everything you expect plus some signature dishes like their sesame balls. These things are filled with hot custard and even though I was warned I still kinda burned myself biting into them. Afterwards we headed to Happy Foot for a foot and back massaged. They separated the ladies, TM and her daughter, and us into separate rooms. Not the biggest fan of this type of torture so I told them to keep it really light while I doze off. I was still a bit jet lagged. By the afternoon we waited for one more person then we headed back over to TST for drinks and eventually Temple Street.

Temple street is definitely something people need to experience. There are stands selling all sorts of stuff, from clothes, to gadgets, to house wares, they had it all. Oh and be prepared to haggle. This is where you sharpen your skills. My advice, start at a ridiculous 75% off then work your way to an agreement. Trust me, they sell the same stuff a couple stands down. What you may not see though are the imitation/knock-off. There’s a different process to find those nowadays. However, we were only there to shop for one thing, food. Temple Street has all the street food imaginable in Hong Kong. For tonight, we only went for seafood place. They had signs for the spicy garlic crab, but this was no Under the Bridge place. Even the locals looked to stay away from the stuff. Everyone ordered non-craby stuff. We ordered, scampi in garlic, clams in black bean sauce, steamed soy ginger fish, shrimps, and some veggies. Great meal. I wanted to pass out there on my little wooden stool. Of course, the crowds of people waiting for a table would drag me off. That was, after watching a fiasco with the table next to us. There was this group of  mainland Chinese people having a shouting match with one another. Didn’t help the guys were drunk or maybe it did if you’re measuring entertainment factor. Couldn’t tell if the girl was accusing the guy of something or the guy was just being rude to the girl. Didn’t know, didn’t care. I was busy trying to figure out how to eat scampi.

Garlic Shrimp
Temple Street

Oh how can you say no. Yes, your breath will pay the price but add in the fresh shrimp and you’ll have to make an exception.

Stir Fried Green Beans
Temple Street

We needed to balance our meal out. What other way than to have some greens mixed with lots of flavor.

Scampi with Garlic
Temple Street

Lots of garlic I should clarify. These things are kinda like shrimp, but harder to peel. Great taste, but less filling. I think I prefer that with beer, not my food.

The Mira
Temple Street

Great hidden gem of a bar in TST. It’s part of The Mira hotel and it’s enclosed in this mellow oasis of a lounge.
